The New Holland has become one of the most famous and popular islands of Saint Petersburg in the recent past. It had been closed for quite long time for public: in 18th and 19th centuries there were located various closed establishments - stocks and storages, workshops, prison and lab. In Soviet Past it was hosted by Military Office. But little care was taken of the historic architectural complex, most of it was almost ruined.
It became open for public only in the beginning of 21st century. The renovation of the island allowed to open brand new cafes, shops, exhibition spaces, concert spots and arrange a beautiful garden, one of the most interesting and beautiful in Northern Cpaital. It became very popular among citizens and tourists. After being closed in 2014 for grand reconstruction it was partly open in 2016 to host various concerts, exhibitions, educational projects, bid open space for kids, festivals and shows. Full reconstruction is dated by 2025.
